Background

My name is Troy, a Senior-level UX Designer that’s been working professionally as a designer for 11+ years. I began graphic design courses at a local technical school during high school. It was a defining moment to learn how art can be used in a more practical sense.

College

I got my Bachelor’s in Graphic Design at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, and was hired as designer at local advertising agency. It was fast-paced and I learned about digital advertising, creating various ads and landing pages, as well as marketing concepts like conversions.

Career

Later in 2019, I went onto work at MarcUSA, now 9Rooftops, and continued what I had been doing previously: digital advertising, web design, email design. As time went on, I was given larger projects and promoted to UX Designer in 2020 and then Senior UX Designer in 2022. My role expanded into research-driven tasks focused around improving user experiences through testing.

During working on The UPS Store project, I interviewed different users regarding their online application process. It was humbling to hear their stories and frustrations. It wasn’t a tool to them but their future and livelihood. I left those conversations feeling driven to help them, and I realized that’s one aspect I love about this work.

My life has gone from raw creative doodles on school papers, to purposeful designs, and now onto creating real solutions for people that can improve their lives.
